I wrote an original, novella-length story during National Novel Writing Month.
Set in the Star Wars universe, The Sword of Ren follows the life of Melkar Whick, a Force user who experiences significant personal loss. I wrote this story during a time when I was coming to terms with significant losses in my own life. Given my familiarity with and love for Star Wars, I chose to set this story "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." The events of the novel occur during the same time as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, though the novel was written in November 2015 before the movie was released, and only two chapters were rewritten in light of the movie.
